Description
Drop all your plans for beaches and waterfalls for this activity is a better break to all that salt, sand, and sun. And what better way it is to discover something new about the Philippines than through a local kitchen? Let’s start cooking, Filipino-style!
With this cooking class experience, you’ll gather around a Filipino chef’s personal kitchen in the town proper. The setting is homey, casual, and fun as you learn about how to prepare some of the most delicious, traditional dishes in the country. You’ll get hands-on experience chopping away as you please, make new friends, and eat your creations too.
The activity lasts four to five hours and you can opt for a morning class (8:30 am) or an evening class (6:00 pm), whichever is more convenient for you. You can also choose between three kinds of meal sets, Set A, B, or C. Each meal set has five dishes: two appetizers, two main dishes, and one dessert. Yum!
The Meal Sets
Set A is all about the most loved traditional dishes in the Philippines, with pinaputok na isda (grouper fish stuffed with spices) and pork adobo (pork marinated in vinegar and spices) as the main dishes. The appetizer turon (banana and jackfruit wrap) is something to look forward too.
With Set B, you’ll learn about cooking Palawan’s finest seafood dishes. This one highlights the appetizer kinilaw (raw fish cooked in vinegar and spices) and the main dish seafood binakol (mussels and vegetables in coconut juice and spices).
Set C is for vegans, vegetarians, or simply those who wish to eat healthier. This set puts in the spotlight the appetizer laing na may puso ng saging (taro leaves and banana heart in coconut milk) and the popular main dish pinakbet (vegetables in coconut milk).
All ingredients are fresh and locally sourced, making for a flavorful and satisfying meal. Best of all, you don’t just get to have fun while doing this activity, you can also take home some little bits of stories about living in El Nido and key techniques about Filipino cooking.
